A land between two rivers…
A magical forest set between the Rivers Wye and Severn, the Forest of Dean has a unique beauty and a wide variety of wildlife. Its rich mosaic of habitats supports an array of different species, while its beautiful natural landscapes provide the perfect place to rest, recharge and find a peaceful escape in nature.
Whether it’s listening to birdsong and watching for migrant birds in spring, spotting butterflies, basking lizards and wildflowers in summer, marvelling at the glorious colours of autumn or spotting woodland and water birds in winter, there is always plenty to see and experience, and we can help you to enjoy the best that each season has to offer.
What we offer
Join us on a guided wildlife-watching walk or private safari, where we will introduce you to the forest and its ecology and its fascinating history, and help you to find and identify birds, mammals, plants and invertebrates, as well as looking out for their tracks and signs. Our walks are open to anyone, from seasoned naturalists to interested amateurs, or simply those wanting to experience the beauty and tranquillity of the forest environment.

What to expect
On your guided walk we will look out for the forest’s varied bird life, from woodland and water birds to raptors, and we will help you to tune in to and identify their songs and calls. We will also look out for tracks and signs of the forest’s mammal species, and you may even be lucky enough to spot a deer or wild boar! We’ll also help you to identify wildflowers and appreciate the wonderful mosses, lichens and ferns that grow here, as well as helping you to identify any butterflies and other insects that we find. In spring and summer, we will also look out for basking lizards and snakes. Find out more about the wildlife you might spot on our forest wildlife page, or visit what is a safari? for more information about the walks we offer.
