Who are we?

Ed and Liz Drewitt are a husband and wife team living and raising our small children in the Forest of Dean. We both have a background in zoology and a fascination with the natural world, and are passionate about sharing our knowledge and our love of the forest on our expert-led wildlife-watching experiences.

Driven by a lifelong passion for nature, Ed has built a career sharing the wonders of the natural world. As a naturalist, author and tour leader, he guides people through diverse habitats, both in the UK and internationally, revealing the secrets of birds, mammals and everything in between.

Ed offers wildlife safaris and dawn chorus experiences in and around the Forest of Dean, drawing on his extensive background as a learning officer for organisations such as Bristol Zoo, the RSPB and the University of Bristol. Outside of his guiding work, he also uses these skills to develop learning resources for nature-related organisations and to evaluate large-scale nature engagement projects.

Since 1998, Ed has been researching the diet of urban peregrine falcons and has written the book Urban Peregrines. He is also the author of Raptor Prey Remains and Bird Pellets, with expertise in feather identification. Ed is also an expert at identifying birdsong.

Liz Drewitt, naturalist and wildlife guide

Liz is a freelance naturalist, writer, editor and artist with over 20 years of experience studying, writing about and watching wildlife. She has edited numerous books about the natural world, written articles for magazines such as BBC Wildlife and also spent several years writing about endangered species for a wildlife charity.

Liz has previously been involved in research and conservation work in South America and Africa, including guiding tourists in the Amazon rainforest and studying the behaviour of parrots and caimans. She also set up and helped to run a UK-based ‘Garden Bioblitz’ project, encouraging people to record the wildlife in their gardens.

Now based in the Forest of Dean, Liz is passionate about the forest and its wildlife, with a particular interest in its wild boar and a fascination for the forest’s rich history. Alongside her editing and guiding work she also runs an online craft shop, ‘Humbug Designs’, selling nature-related art and handmade crafts.
